How to add a youtube video to a page or post

YouTubeWordPress makes it easy to add a video from YouTube to your page or post. All you need to do is:

  • Go to your YouTube account at YouTube.com and log in (you can use your gmail login if you have one)
  • Find the video you want to embed
  • Copy and paste the video url into the Text editor of your page or post (looks like this: https://youtu.be/3aR0id8gvew)
  • WordPress will automatically transform the video url into the video you chose when you publish or update the page or post

Why use WordPress (self-hosted)?

There are many great reasons to use a self-hosted version of WordPress for developing your website and blog.  Here are my top 10:

  1. Google loves WordPress (and blogs in general) because search engines favor sites that have regularly created fresh content.  See my post on SEO.
  2. WordPress is interactive.  Visitors can comment on pages and posts.  You can create a community around your business with your site.
  3. You can organize content with categories and visitors can view or subscribe to the categories they want to.
  4. You can automatically sync your content to social websites such as Facebook with the RSS feed.
  5. WordPress sites can be translatable into many languages.
  6. WordPress sites are easy to update (far easier than reglular html or Joomla).
  7. Multiple authors and editors can contribute to writing content and posting photos or video (you can DELEGATE!)
  8. You can add PayPal buttons or a shopping cart to monetize your site (you can MAKE MONEY!)
  9. You can embed video from YouTube easily (YouTube is second to Google as a search engine now!)
  10. WordPress is open-source and is constantly evolving (it’s always getting better!)
  11. OK one more: WordPress is easy to learn!

There are more advanced reasons that concern templates, tags and permalinks, but the 10 reasons listed above should satisfy most folks who need a fast and easy way to get their business website up and running.

Embed your YouTube Channel

Picture 12Embedding your YouTube Channel on your WordPress page or post is easy if you know how to do it.  Let me save you the time it takes to figure it out by giving you these simple steps:

Modify this code: <script src=”http://www.gmodules.com/ig/ifr?url=http://www.google.com/ig/modules/youtube.xml&amp;up_channel=YourChannelName&amp;synd=open&amp;w=320&amp;h=390&amp;title=&amp;border=%23ffffff%7C3px%2C1px+solid+%23999999&amp;output=js”></script>

and place the code with your Channel Name inside of it into the HTML editor of your WordPress page or post editor.

That’s it! Easy! All of the colors you set up in your Channel from within YouTube will show.

You can also grab the embed code from your channel page to alter width and height. Make sure you are logged in. See this page: http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138346

Turn your audio into a YouTube video

If you’re a musical artist, or any kind of visual artist (hair, website designer, dancer, sculptor, painter, etc.) for that matter, you can put your work up on YouTube.  For example, if you are a musical artist, do what Mark Maxwell has done.  If you are a visual artist, create a slideshow and set your favorite pieces to music.  You get the idea… Have fun with it!
