Introduction to WordPress Class
Objective:
to deepen student understanding of how to get the most out of WordPress
Materials needed:
notebook and pen and/or laptop with wireless internet access to take notes
Pre-requisites:
- Introduction to WordPress with Cat’s Web Weave or equivalent
- admin access to an existing WordPress website (this can be provided for a testing site until you have your own)
- basic computer literacy (you can boot up, open an internet browser, know computer basics like typing, uploading, etc.)
- excitement about increasing your revenue and gaining more loyal customers for your excellent product or service
Topics covered:
This class will go more in depth than the Introduction to WordPress Class. Each student will also receive more individualized attention. We will have introductions at the beginning so students can get to know each other.
I will attempt to cover the following topics:
- how to install WordPress using a 1-click install technique with Dreamhost web hosting service
- how to find and install plugins you can count on
- how to create categories and how to use them to further organize your website
- plugins, best practices and techniques for maintaining and backing up your entire WordPress site
- how to add statistics and Google Analytics so you can track your visitor information and create conversion goals
- how to import your relevant keywords into your tag list
- how to sync your blog with your Facebook Page
I will also share resources on the best themes, plugins and other blogging resources I have come across in my work.
There will be time for individual questions.
