DVD video to QuickTime Conversion

Have a video on DVD that you would like to edit?  Well first you will have to convert it to a format that works with your video editor.

I use MPEG2 Works4′s “MPEG to QT” function to convert from Video_TS to QuickTime format. It’s a little counter-intuitive, so here are the detailed instructions.

1) Open MPEG2 Works

2) Click Export to QT

3) Choose MPEG to QT

4) Choose the .VOB in the Video_TS folder from your DVD folder (choose the biggest .VOB file because that’s where the content is – one way to test to make sure you have the right one is to open the .VOB file in QuickTime and see if it plays).

5) Choose the Output folder (not the original Video_Ts folder).

6) Choose what format to save the file as (I use Movie to QuickTime) and give the file a name.

7) Now you can open the .mov file you just created in QuickTime and if you have QuickTimePro, you can do some basic trimming before importing the file into another video editing program.

Please note: To use MPEG2 Works4, you will also need to get and install the MPEG playback component for QuickTime.
